Prerequisite Classes for Admission

The following health professions generally require the completion of a four year undergraduate degree, followed by four years of professional school:

  • Medicine
  • Dentistry
  • Optometry
  • Veterinary
  • Podiatry

These schools have relatively uniform prerequisites, which include at least the following college courses:

  • General Biology: 1 year
  • General Chemistry: 1 year
  • Organic Chemistry: 1 year*
  • Physics: 1 year**


* Some vet schools require one semester of organic chemistry and one semester of biochemistry.

** Some vet schools require only one semester of physics.
