Finish in Four
Finish in Four reflects NAU’s philosophy that undergraduate students progress toward graduation in a timely manner. Finish in Four is the University’s commitment to provide support, resources and advising to help you finish a degree within four years.
Student Responsibilities
The University outlines the steps for finishing in four years in the form of progression plans for every major on the mountain campus. Click here for Progression Plans. As an NAU student, you can use a progression plan as a template for your own academic path and manage your course selection and scheduling to complete your degree as planned. This requires that you:
- Understand the requirements for your degree as described in the university catalog and outlined in the progression plan
- Take classes during the times and terms when they are offered
- Consult with your academic advisor on a regular basis
- Register for classes within 48 hours of your Early Enrollment Appointment each term
- Notify your academic advisor if you are unable to enroll in a course required for your major
- Maintain university and major GPA requirements
- File graduation application paperwork the semester before you intend to graduate

University Commitment
The University is committed to providing support and incentive for you to finish your degree in the most efficient and cost effective way possible. NAU will:
- Provide access to academic advising, resources, and tools that teach you how to manage your degree progression
- Help you maximize the financial advantages of The Pledge
- Assure the availability of required courses to complete your degree. (If a course is not available, departments may substitute another course, arrange an independent study, or grant special permission for an alteration to the progression plan.)
- If the Department Chair and Program Coordinator determine that the department/school is unable to provide the classes necessary to graduate in four years, NAU will pay the Tuition and Fees for you to take the course(s) required for you to finish your degree program
Personalizing a Progression Plan
There are sometimes reasons for adjusting your progression plan such as changing majors; participating in internship, research, or study abroad opportunities; adding majors, minors, or certificates; or taking care of personal commitments. If you need to make adjustments to your progression plan, you should:
- Review the Strategies for Finish in Four page
- Meet with your advisor to review your proposed plan
- Use Summer and Winter terms to stay on track
- Utilize the Blank Personalized Progression Planner (PDF)
If personal or academic circumstances prevent you from finishing in four years, advisors will still help you to graduate in the timeline you determine.
