GEAR UP Features

In October 2005, NAU GEAR UP collaborated with the Alhambra Elementary School District, the City of Phoenix and the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to launch "Let's Do Lunch" at Cordova Middle School in Phoenix, an innovative mentoring program that invites community business professionals to reinforce the importance of education and its relevance to careers that depend on an educated workforce.

"This promising program is about making a difference in the life of a child and, at the same time, helping shape the workforce of the future," said Teena Olszewski, GEAR UP Director.

The City of Phoenix community television program, "On the Issues," brought the program to local viewers' attention throughout the month of October. Barbara Soby, GEAR UP Assistant Director, appeared on that broadcast.
