THE INTERACTIVE ARCHAEOLOGY OF SLAVERY                              DESCRIPTION

An interactive CD-ROM and associated web site allows learners to witness the process of archaeological research and participate in simulated field and laboratory work with real data, while developing an appreciation for cultural identity when even basic human rights are not met. Learners create a virtual museum exhibit that requires the students to analyze both the quantitative archaeological data and the qualitative data presented in digital video footage of archaeologists, historians, Africans, and African Americans. Learners will compare, quantify, and visually graph data from three different archaeological sites to address questions concerning how slaves maintained identity while enduring the horrors of slavery.
