Research

Research conducted by the Institute for Human Development is developed jointly with consumers and other constituents to address specific needs and systems issues related to disability services, planning, personnel preparation and policy. Research methodologies range from surveys and questionnaires to model service demonstration projects and program evaluation.

In our efforts to reach our goals in the areas of research and evaluation, the following projects are underway to establish the AzUCD as a statewide and national resource in disability research and program evaluation:

• Public attitudes towards and understanding of people with disabilities

• Arizona Muscular Dystrophy Surveillance and Research Program (AMDSRP)

• Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) – MD STARnet Grant

• Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) – Autism/DD Surveillance Grant

• Promoting Health in Adolescents with Muscular Dystrophy

• Electroencephalography Measures (mirror neurons) of Social Attention and Skills in Children with Autism

• Stimulus Equivalence and Spanish/English Care providers of Children with Autism

• Cortisol levels of Children with Disabilities during Functional Analyses of Problem Behavior

• “I” in the IEP”, is being submitted to the Institute of Education Sciences (IES), CFDA number 84.324I, application number NCSER-06-10

• A Preference Assessment of Qualities of Attention Delivered from Care Providers to Children: an analysis of “saying versus doing”
