Sensory Services

The purpose of the Sensory Services program (also known as Rehabilitation Services for Persons who are Blind or Visually Impaired) is to provide vocational and independent living skills training to persons with visual impairment (VI) to increase their ability to overcome limitations and become self-sufficient.

The objectives of the Sensory Services project are to teach individuals who are visually impaired in two general areas:

  1. Rehabilitation teaching
  2. Orientation and mobility

Through rehabilitation teaching the individual develops skills for carrying out daily living activities such as home and personal management, job exploration, and communications resources. Orientation and mobility helps the individual learn how to be fully aware of his or her surroundings - moving safely, efficiently, and independently around the home, job, and community.
