Details for Daniel J. Gulchak, Ph.D.

Dr. Daniel Gulchak is the statewide program coordinator for the PBISAz project (link to PBISAz home IHD page) at the IHD. The Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports of Arizona program provides training to schools and districts throughout the state to help them implement school-wide PBIS programs.

Dr. Gulchak collaborates with researchers at ASU, UA, and the department of education to provide training workshops, technical assistance, and support to schools located in the central and northern rural areas of the state.

Dr. Gulchak has taught students with disabilities for over 10 years. He began his career in the field of special education working in group homes, vocational workshops, and as a paraprofessional in schools. After earning his Master’s Degree in special education, he became a classroom teacher. After years in the classroom and providing professional development training in classroom and behavior management, he earned his doctorate at Arizona State University specializing in behavioral disorders and educational technology. His research has been published in peer reviewed journals, specialty magazines, and professional association newsletters.

Dr. Gulchak currently belongs to several professional associations including:

  • CEC – Council for Exceptional Children
  • CCBD – Council for Children with Behavioral Disorders
  • APBS – Association for Positive Behavior Support
  • NSDC – National Staff Development Council
  • ISTE – International Society for Technology in Education

Dr. Gulchak’s long-term research agenda aims to build the capacity of educators to leverage technologies that enable students with behavior challenges to succeed in school and life.
