They're back! Help welcome new and returning students
Students will start moving back to campus Saturday, Aug. 21. If you'd like to help welcome new students to their residence halls, answer questions or provide directions, the Office of Residence Life would like to hear from you. Shifts are two hours. Call Sheree Wood, 523-7618. If you're on campus during the weekend, the Office of Student Affairs encourages faculty and staff to wear a nametag or NAU-wear identifying yourself to new students and their families as someone willing to assist.

Faculty, staff, and NAU community members also are invited to participate in Lumberjack Welcome Week, which begins Wednesday, Aug. 25. For a complete schedule of events, visit www.nau.edu/otrs/lww. Events, including an outdoor screening of Finding Nemo, are free and open to the NAU community unless otherwise noted.


Four claim fame in NAU Athletics
Three former Northern Arizona University student-athletes and administrators and one team will be inducted into the Northern Arizona University Athletics Hall of Fame, Athletics Director Jim Fallis has announced.

1997-98 NAU Men's Basketball Team

The 2004 class includes Sam Borozan (administrator/booster, 1953-present), Travis Brown (football, 1996-99), John Emmett (baseball, 1976-77) and the 1997-98 men's basketball team. They will be inducted as part of the 24th annual Hall of Fame weekend that will feature a banquet Sept. 24 at 6 p.m. at Forest Highlands with the induction ceremony taking place at halftime of the NAU-Weber State game Sept. 25. Counseling and Testing Center announces fees
Effective Aug. 30, the Counseling and Testing Center will charge a nominal fee beyond the free initial consultation, as follows: Individual counseling, $10 per session. Couples counseling, $10 per session for the couple. Group counseling, $30 per semester membership. There is no charge for emergency services and no fee for consultations with administrators, staff, faculty, and parents who are concerned about a student's mental health. Anthropology, engineering relocate
The Anthropology Department has moved to the swing space ("Emerald City") building 4, also known as building 98D. All department phone numbers and mailing addresses will remain the same. Anthropology classes have not moved from their scheduled rooms in Social and Behavioral Sciences (building 65) and du Bois (building 64). Contact: anthropology office, 523-3180.

Engineering offices have moved to Peterson Hall on North Campus; classes will be held in swing space buildings 1 and 2, with labs in building 3- all also known as building 98. Department phone numbers and mailing addresses are unchanged.

Speaking of moving, TV Services has relocated back to building 16, the Communication building.


YMCA offers preschool program
NAU employees are invited to take advantage of a YMCA preschool program on the Lonetree campus of Coconino Community College. The program, which is staffed by providers certified in early childhood development and infant care, is for 3- to 5-year-old children. The weekly rate is $102 for full-time care, $27 a day for one or more days a week. Call 226-4227 for information and other rates.


County Fair call for volunteers

The Flagstaff Convention and Visitors Bureau welcomes NAU to help staff its booth at the Coconino County Fair Sept. 3 - 6 at Ft. Tuthill County Fairgrounds. Shifts are two hours, and admission to the fair is free to volunteers. NAU volunteers are encouraged to sport NAU clothing and can distribute NAU promotional materials, which will be provided. On your bed… get set… GO! Racers wanted
The 10th annual Northern Arizona Toys for Tots Bed Race Extravaganza is looking toward NAU for help in staging another successful charity event.

Organizers are recruiting NAU students, faculty and staff for five-member race teams to help organize the event, which benefits Flagstaff Toys for Tots. The entry fee is $250 per team. However, individual volunteers are welcome to work in shifts to help coordinate the event.

The Home Depot Bed Race Parade is part of a weekend of events that begins with mixer at the Radisson Woodlands Hotel Sept. 17.

The parade begins at 9 a.m. Sept. 18 at the corner of Cherry and San Francisco streets. The Garcia's Bed Race follows the parade from 10:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bed race finalists will compete beginning at 1 p.m. Sept. 19 for a chance to win a six-day trip to Hawaii. The weekend also includes a bathtub race, a king and queen contest, a marching band contest and a classic car show.

The charity serves about 12,000 northern Arizona children and distributes about 37,000 toys during the holiday season.

Multicultural Student Reception Aug. 30
The Offices of Residence Life and the Multicultural Student Center invite faculty and staff to the 18th annual student reception on Monday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. in the du Bois Center ballroom. The reception is a celebration of the various cultures and backgrounds that all members of the NAU community represent. The reception is free of charge and dress is casual. Contact: 523-7614.
