Forum scheduled for master plan review
The campus and public is invited to a forum at which consultant Ayers/Saint/Gross will present the campus master plan. The forum is scheduled for Tuesday, April 26, from noon to 2 p.m. in the Cline Assembly Hall. The plan covers future buildings, including the conference center, parking and transportation, best uses of underutilized land and landscaping. |
Football team rushes to help Piestewa 'Makeover'
The Northern Arizona University football team spent Sunday afternoon helping with the ABC show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, which built a house on north Highway 89 for the family of Lori Piestewa.

NAU's green building design has garnered the first annual Bill Kicksey Environmental Achievement award from Arizona Environmental Leadership through Mentoring, or AZ ELM, a non-profit organization that provides educational assistance, information and resources for Environmental, Health and Safety strategies to Arizona businesses and other organizations.

Regent Ernest Calderón, an NAU alumnus, has been named Man of the Year for 2004 by Valley Leadership, whose mission is to serve and strengthen communities by developing individual leadership abilities.

NCA focused visit planned for May 2-3
Reviewers for the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools will conduct a focused visit May 2 and 3, pursuant to a "Request for Institutional Change" that NAU submitted to the Commission requesting endorsement of its web-based degree and certificate programs. Several web sites and information sessions will offer further information.

Erika Schultz, photo student, wins first-place national recognition
Senior Erika Schultz, photojournalism major and assistant photography editor of The Lumberjack, has won the first-place, $9,000 scholarship from the Alexia Foundation and a grant from the Nancy Engebretson Memorial Photojournalism Award.

Postal Services offers workshop on cutting mail costs
Postal Services will offer a mail preparation workshop Wednesday, April 27, from 1 - 2 p.m. at its office in the Bookstore building. Staff will summarize guidelines and procedures for mailing and how to take advantage of the "SmartMail" system to reduce mailing costs. Ken Heerding, founding manager of The Inn, begins next course
The School of Hotel and Restaurant Management will honor Ken Heerding, the founding manager of The Inn at NAU, as he starts a new course: retirement. Heerding has been with NAU since 1985. Beyond his tenure as The Inn's general manager, Heerding also was an instructor for seventeen years and has been director of cooperative education and internships for more than five years. NAU Athletics to walk the walk on April 30
The Athletics Department is holding an inaugural event, "Women Helping Women, The NAU Women's Walk for Women's Athletics‚" on Saturday, April 30. The dollars raised through the 30-minute walk will go toward academic scholarships for NAU's female student-athletes. Cecily Haeger, wife of NAU President John D. Haeger, is chairing the event.
