Devotees of George Gershwin can learn about the politics of his music when noted musicologist Richard Crawford presents "Gershwin's Political Operettas (1927-1933)" on Saturday, April 9, at 1:30 in Cline Library Assembly Hall.


Northern Arizona Book Festival
April 15-17
NAU professor of creative writing Ann Cummins is a featured reader in the festival, joining Pulitzer Prize-winning author Annie Proulx (The Shipping News) and other literary figures. Cummins' short stories have appeared in The New Yorker, Antioch Review and other literary magazines, and have been anthologized in The Best American Short Stories, Prentice Hall Anthology of Women's Literature, The Best of the West and Walking the Twilight, Women Writers of the Southwest.

New parking fees take effect in August
Northern Arizona University's new parking fees, postponed a year ago by President John Haeger, will go into effect in August, increasing the cost for most employees by $30. The new full-year parking fee will be $132. READ MORE...

Virgil Masayesva Memorial Service: 'In Celebration and Memory'

Virgil Masayesva


A memorial service will be held for Virgil Masayesva, director and co-founder of the Institute for Tribal Environmental Professionals, at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 9, at NAU's Clifford White Theater, building 37.

A reception will be held immediately following the service.

Self-study team inviting participation
in task forces

The steering committee preparing for Northern Arizona University's comprehensive review for accreditation renewal is inviting staff, faculty, students and community members to communicate their interest in serving on one of five self-study task forces. The task forces will be formed within the next month and the self-study work will begin in earnest in August, continuing through fall 2006. READ MORE...

College of Education seeking compassionate leave for staff member
The College of Education is asking for compassionate leave donations for Heidi Blair, who has used all her vacation and sick leave to assist her mother, who is in hospice in North Carolina. To donate vacation time, click here, complete the Compassionate Transfer of Leave Donor Form and submit it to Human Resources. Even a few hours of vacation time would be appreciated.


Professor Les Hunt retiring
The Department of Psychology invites the university community to a reception Wednesday, April 13, from 3 to 5 p.m., at The Inn at NAU in honor of professor Les Hunt, who is retiring at the end of this academic year. Hunt joined the psychology faculty in 1967 after receiving his Ph.D. from the University of Nevada, Reno.
