Extreme celebration at the Skydome
The workers at Extreme Makeover: Home Edition have built a dream home for the family of Lori Piestewa and a veterans center in Tuba City.
Join us for a community viewing of this fun and rousing event to honor all veterans on Sunday in the Walkup Skydome. Admission is free.
Doors open at 4 p.m. with a KNXV-TV 15 special beginning at 5. The two-hour season finale of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition begins at 6.
Bring a lawn chair and sit on the field, or find a comfortable spot in the stands. We'll have free popcorn and giveaways. Concessions will be on sale.

Sophomore survey includes kudos for faculty, staff
In its 2005 online sophomore survey, the Office of Planning, Budget, and Institutional Research reports on one of the questions that asked students to provide the name of a faculty or staff member who positively influenced their experience while at NAU. Whether they describe their teachers as "smart as hell" or staff members as very helpful, students' comments remind us why we're here. Click here for more.
Dental grads have something to smile about
All 22 of the NAU's 2005 dental hygiene grads passed their National Board exams, with the school's average score two points above the national average. "At least half of the graduates have jobs, although many don't look until after they have passed their board exams," said Denise Helm, chair of dental hygiene. Congratulations to the class of 2005.
Long-time educator chosen
to head NAU-Yuma
Anna-Marie Aldaz, who has taught at Northern Arizona University since 1984, has been named interim executive director of NAU-Yuma.

A new exhibit, The Politics of Water, opens Friday, May 20, at the NAU Art Museum. Artists from around the country have submitted works depicting their interpretation of how the precious resource runs through their lives and the environment around them.

Dining services tweaks summer hours
In preparation for a busy conference season, dining venues on campus—except Java.com—will be closed through June 5.
Java.com will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday through the summer. Due to construction at the east entrance of the University Union, use the west entrance.
On June 6 several eateries will reopen: Union Station, Java.com, Pizza Hut, South Perk, Just Stuff, Timber Inn, Scholars Corner and the Snack Shack. For up-to-date hours of operation, click here.
Parking permits available online May 20
Beginning Friday, May 20, NAU employees can purchase parking permits online. (Note: Parking Services uses Internet Explorer; the web site does not support Macs.)

Kids can hoop it up at NAU camp
Children ages 5-14 can have some fun while they learn the fundamentals of basketball at NAU's basketball camp, offered by the Men's Basketball Program. The camp runs from June 20-23, and the kids will be instructed by NAU coaches and players on basketball fundamentals. Hours are 9 a.m. to noon for 5-8 year-olds; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for 9-14 year-olds. Registration is 8 to 9 a.m. Monday, June 20.
NAU employees get a discounted rate: $120 for ages 9-14, and $100 for ages 5-8. Regular fee is $150 and $120, respectively. Contact: Korey White (928) 523-5639.

Printing Services is offering two free workshops for anyone who can use help in planning, designing and packaging documents for print or copy output.
Workshops are:
- Wednesday, May 25, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the Agassiz conference room at the du Bois Center
- Tuesday, June 14, from 2 to 4 p.m. in Room 28 at the du Bois Center

Arizonans willing to pay more for traditional foods
The majority of Arizonans would be willing to pay more for traditionally processed foods such as Navajo lamb, saguaro cactus syrup and blue corn, according to the Grand Canyon State Poll, which is conducted by Northern Arizona University's Social Research Laboratory.

Junior Forestry Academy accepting donations for scholarship fund
Students from underserved rural Arizona can have an opportunity to attend Junior Forestry Academy camp with a little help from a scholarship fund. Donations to the fund can be sent to the Centennial Forest at Box # 15018, to the attention of Cheryl Miller, the academy's coordinator. The Centennial Forest and the academy offer a unique opportunity for youth to experience the forest through hiking, forest discovery and nature-based art and games. - Finances, depression often issues for 'family annihilators'
This is a "classic case" of familicide, the killing of a spouse and children, said Neil Websdale, a criminal justice professor at Northern Arizona University. "Familicides are really rare forms of domestic homicides," said Websdale, who specializes in studying domestic violence homicides. "Usually we see the guy faced with prospects of failure in life in general."

- North Scott Hall of Excellence—Edith Copley: Distinguished educator
Never underestimate the power of piano lessons. Those keys were the key to opening up a successful career in music education for Edith Copley, one of this year's Hall of Excellence honorees. Director of choral studies at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff since 1990, Copley was named Arizona Music Educator of the Year by the Arizona Music Educators Association last year.
