Blue Cross subscribers to see slight increase
NAU employees will see a slight raise in Blue Cross Blue Shield rates this fall with the university picking up the bulk of the increase.
Employees will pay an additional $5 per month for the NAU BCBS plan, beginning Oct. 1. The totals will change to $25 per month for employee-only coverage and $125 a month for family coverage. Premiums will result in twice-month payroll deductions of $12.50 for employee-only coverage or $62.50 for family coverage.

Deaf forest worker inspires others
Being deaf isn't stopping Kamran Mousavi from listening to trees this summer.
The parks and recreation management major at NAU is working in the local forests recording information about trees and plants for the university's Ecological Restoration Institute. Mousavi's resolve to work outdoors was so inspiring the ERI quickly hired him, and now many of the team are learning American Sign Language so they can communicate with him.

Be mindful of road restrictions
Driving around campus may be tricky for a while so be careful, patient and follow road signage.
"We're trying to do as much as we can now so traffic patterns are not a problem for returning students," said Mark Flynn, executive director of Capital Assets and Services. "We will provide weekly updates of the traffic patterns on our web site."

Jean Zukowski/Faust, a professor of English whose 42-year career took her from Turkey to Tucson to Poland and Flagstaff, died July 17, 2006. She was 65.

Priscilla Harden retiring
Priscilla Harden, associate director of Distance Learning, is retiring after 10 years with NAU. The university community is invited to a reception in Harden's honor from 2 to 4 p.m. July 20 in the Pattea Conference Room in the Blome building.
Exploring law enforcement
Special operations equipment and demonstrations were part of the 2006 Law Enforcement Exploring Conference's closing ceremonies July 14 in a jam-packed Lumberjack Stadium. More than 3,000 participants attended the weeklong conference, which attracts people from all over the nation interested in all areas of law enforcement.

School Psychology programs gain approval
The School Psychology programs in Northern Arizona University’s Department of Educational Psychology have received full approval from the National Association of School Psychologists.
The department, which is home to a master’s and Ph.D. programs in school psychology, earned accreditation without any provisions through 2011. “I commend you and your colleagues for developing a high-quality program commensurate with national standards,” said Patti L. Harrison, chair of the NASP Program approval board in her letter to the college.
