Shaheen, the author of Reel Bad Arabs: How Hollywood Vilifies a People and Arab and Muslim Stereotyping in American Popular Culture, will provide a historical overview of stereotypical images, particularly Arab images, in film, explain why such images persist and how these images affect individuals, public opinion and even public policy. Shaheen will offer solutions to the problem of stereotyping and will argue how Hollywood could (and should) play a role in dispelling injurious stereotypes. A former CBS news consultant on Middle East affairs whose other clients have ranged from the United Nations to Warner Brothers, Shaheen has been a regular guest on Nightline, Good Morning America, and The Today Show.
