Alumni Association honors achievements

Continuing a longtime tradition, the Northern Arizona University Alumni Association will honor several alumni with achievement awards during homecoming weekend.

This year's honorees are:

Homecoming to celebrate
NAU friends past and present

Northern Arizona University invites alumni and friends, students, faculty and staff to celebrate the school's 82nd Homecoming during the week of Oct. 16 in Flagstaff. Festivities run the gamut—from the playful Mr. Lumberjack Pageant to a bonfire and crowning of Homecoming king and queen, to a parade downtown, a football matchup with Sacramento State and more.

As alumni converge on Flagstaff, including the Blue and Gold Reunion for the class of 1966 and Alumni Award winners, the NAU Office of Alumni and Constituent Relations and campus partners will sponsor a variety of events throughout the week, including some of these highlights:

Tuesday, Oct. 17

  • Homecoming Dedicatee Banquet, 6 p.m., Ashurst Auditorium
    History professor Margaret Morley will be honored for her selection as the 2006 Homecoming Dedicatee. Banquet tickets are $6 for students and $10 for others, and are available through ASNAU in the University Union, room 206.

Thursday, Oct. 19

  • Homecoming Traditions Day, Tinsley, Wilson, Allen Quad
    A bonfire, the Mr. Lumberjack Pageant and other activities. Contact Art Farmer at (928) 523-5181 or art.farmer@nau.edu.

Saturday, Oct. 21

  • Homecoming Parade, 11 a.m., downtown Flagstaff
    The perennial favorite starts at the corner of Elm and Beaver with the theme Celebrating the Southwest Today. Homecoming parade entries from NAU student organizations, campus departments and community organizations are being accepted until Oct. 18.   • Tailgating and Football Game
    The Lumberjacks take on the Hornets from Sacramento State in a Big Sky Conference matchup. Kick-off is 3:05 p.m. Contact NAU Central Ticket Office at (928) 523-5661 or visit www4.nau.edu/cto.
  • Powerful Good Time, 6:30 to 10:30 p.m., Heritage Square, downtown Flagstaff
    Live music by Foot Solejahs, food and giveaways for alumni. Call (888) 628-2586.
