Dear Colleagues:

This time of year conjures up images of golden leaves and bountiful harvests. And on our own campus, we are enjoying a season of success. It is also a time to reflect on those who are not so fortunate and look for ways to give back to our local community and help our friends and neighbors.

Please join me in supporting United Way of Northern Arizona. As the region's largest employer, we have an opportunity to help thousands of people who are less fortunate. We are in a unique position to make a difference and through United Way, we can support numerous local programs that foster learning, empowerment, and caring.

Last year, through your generosity, the university community pledged more than $70,000 to United Way with 99 percent of all money going directly to our community. Our contributions not only stay in our community, they are well managed by a local volunteer board of directors.

Pledge forms are now being sent to your department and I encourage you to complete the form and send it to NAU Box 5645. As always, you can designate your donation to a particular organization, and you can even sign up for the payroll deduction plan that allows you to spread your deduction out over a self-designated period of time.

There are many organizations throughout northern Arizona that could use your help. At NAU, we recognize the power of Flagstaff and northern Arizona as "One Community." Through United Way, we can put that philosophy into action.
