Revised safety policy in place A revised safety policy was approved by President John Haeger after input from employee groups and the president's cabinet. The new NAU Personnel Policy on Safety, policy #5.03, is effective immediately. The revised policy takes a more comprehensive approach to the safety responsibilities of the university, supervisors and employees, emphasizing everyone's role in promoting health and safety through awareness, education and appropriate actions. As part of the revision process, the section in the previous policy that addressed "Children in the Workplace" was removed to better address it in a separate policy. The section that addressed "Violence" was also removed (except for the reporting requirement) for the same reason. In the meantime, Haeger has approved interim policy statements that articulate the basic expectations in these areas. Human Resources will soon begin the work of soliciting employee input on specific and separate policies that address these two issues in more depth. Employees are encouraged to review the policy to be aware of the expectations and requirements. Additionally, employees and supervisors can visit the new Safety Training website for resources to help them meet safety training requirements. |
