Macy Pryer, NAU custodian for nearly 30 years,
dies at 69

Macy Pryer, a custodian for NAU's Capital Assets and Services for nearly 30 years, died Oct. 22. She was 69.

"Macy was a larger-than-life woman," said Mark Flynn, executive director of Capital Assets and Services, who worked closely with Pryer throughout her years at NAU. "Macy was part of the backbone of custodial services. She was very family oriented and brought that with her to work. She built camaraderie with the students and was like a mother to everyone."

Mrs. Pryer was born May 31, 1937, in Carthage, Miss., to Josephine Gray and Charley Gary Sr. She worked for NAU from 1970 to 1997.

Mrs. Pryer attended Riverside Church of God in Christ and enjoyed taking walks and riding her bike.

She is survived by her children, Virginia, Joe, Larry Johns, Dennis Johns, Janie, Randy Pryer, Julette Pryer, Glen Pryer, George Pryer III and LaCresha Powell. She also had 18 grandchildren.
