  • John Doherty and Kevin Ketchner from NAU's Cline Library recently published "Empowering the Intentional Learner: A Critical Theory for Information Literacy Instruction" in Vol 8, Issue 1 of the open access journal Library Philosophy and Practice. Doherty was also appointed to the editorial board of Library Philosophy and Practice.
  • Honor students Tracy Ellege, as a sole author, and Ryan Saxby and Crystal Wandry as co-authors, have had proposals accepted for the March 2006 meeting of the Western Regional Honors Council. The council includes honors programs in Idaho, Washington, Montana, Wyoming, Oregon, Colorado, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, Alaska, and Hawaii.
  • Bruce Fox, director of NAU's Honors Program, has been elected to a three-year term to the National Collegiate Honors Council board of directors. His term begins January 2008. The council serves honors professionals and students while advancing undergraduate education, and recognizes the importance of life-long learning and social responsibility.   • Northern Arizona University will host the 2008 meeting of the Western Regional Honors Council. The NAU Honors Program will lead the planning efforts for this meeting.
  • Richard Quartaroli, special collections librarian at Cline Library, completed his third year on the Southwest Books of the Year panel, part of the Tucson Pima Public Library's Southwest Literature Project. Panelists review more than 275 books, each choosing their top eight picks. Luis Alberto Urrea's The Hummingbird's Daughter: A Novel, was the top pick, chosen by four of five panelists, including Quartaroli.
