  • Frances Riemer, associate professor of educational foundations/educational leadership, has been selected as the new director of NAU's Women's Studies Program. She holds a doctorate in educational anthropology from the University of Pennsylvania, and in 2001 published Working at the Margins: Moving off Welfare in America. She has been awarded many grants for her ongoing research on literacy and development in Botswana.

    Riemer, who has taught at NAU since 1997, is currently on sabbatical and will begin her appointment in July.

  • Pam Stephens, assistant professor of art education, has published Dropping in on Grant Wood, the fourth in a series of award-winning art history books, animated videos and DVDs for children. Each set uses open-ended questioning to lead children through an exploration of the life and selected masterworks of a major artist. Published by Crystal Productions of Glenview, IL, the series is illustrated by Glendale artist, Jim McNeill.
  • The NAU Cheer and Dance Teams will compete this weekend at the United Spirit Association Collegiate Cheerleading and Dance Nationals in Las Vegas. Both teams have put in more than 100 hours of practice for their two-minute and 30-second routines.

    The NAU and Flagstaff communities are invited to watch the teams showcase their routines at a dress rehearsal at 6 p.m. tonight, Feb. 1, in NAU's Rolle Activity Center. For information, click here.
