world views to campus Every picture tells a story during photojournalism week at the School of Communication. Besides "Unembedded: Four Independent Photojournalists on the War in Iraq," an exhibit through April 6 in the School of Communication featuring images of the Iraq war, three-time Pulitzer Prize winning photojournalist Carol Guzy will discuss her international work during a lecture at 7 p.m. April 5 in room 119 of the Communication building. The Iraq photojournalism exhibit is an offspring of a book titled Unembedded: Four Independent Photojournalists on the War in Iraq. It features 60 large, framed, color photographs from Iraq taken by photojournalists Thoren Anderson, Kael Alford, Rita Leistner and Ghaith Abdul-Ahad. The exhibit is on a national tour and focuses on the impact of the war on the lives of civilians in Iraq and what the photojournalists experienced behind the lines of the Shiite militia uprising in Najaf. The exhibit is located on the second floor of the Communication building and viewing hours are 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Two of the photojournalists, Alford and Anderson, will speak with numerous NAU classes and will present a free lecture, slide show and book signing at 6:30 p.m. March 30 in the du Bois Center Ballroom. Guzy, a photojournalist for the Washington Post, will discuss her work and how she earned her Pulitzer Prizes and numerous other awards, including being named the White House Press Photographer Association's Photographer of the Year eight times. She has received three awards from the National Press Photographers Association for Photographer of the Year. Guzy was awarded the Leica Medal of Excellence, the Overseas Press Club Citation of Excellence and the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award. "Carol has an amazing heart and you can see it in her photography," said Peter Schwepker, a lecturer in the School of Communication. "Besides speaking, she'll be on campus working with students and their photography portfolios. It's a great opportunity for the students to get this kind of feedback."
