Tennis standout McClelland named
to Academic All-District Team

Junior Susan McClelland was named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District 8 Women’s At-Large team. A native of Edina, Minn., McClelland has a 4.00 GPA in pre-medicine.

She played at the top position this season, posting an 11-26 overall record at No. 1 (4-16 in dual matches). She helped the Lumberjacks to a third-place finish in the regular-season standings and a Big Sky Tournament finals appearance. She also posted a 6-5 record at No. 2 doubles with teammate Julie Schmandt in the spring.

Schmandt is a three-time Golden Eagle Award recipient.

She joined 10 student-athletes from across the district on the team. She will now compete for a spot on the Academic All-America At-Large team.

Schmandt is the eighth NAU student-athlete to be honored this year on the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America District 8 teams. Men’s basketball player Kelly Golob was an Academic All-America second team selection. Women’s basketball players Nicky Eason, Megan Porter and Alyssa Wahl, soccer players redshirt freshman Cee Cee Odorfer and junior Lindsey Carey and football player Jeff Singleton were all-district selections. The teams were selected by voting members of the College Sports Information Directors of America.
