Visiting speakers to address the 'changing landscape' of higher education The changing landscape of higher education is a popular topic for colleges and universities nationwide. The issues are complex—from new technologies to changing demographics—and have significant implications for the future of higher education. "We can't sit idly by and watch these changes occurring without considering what's at stake for this university, or higher education as a whole, for that matter," said NAU President John Haeger, who has invited several leaders in higher education to participate in his second President's Speakers Series. "We need to keep our fingers on the pulse of trends and issues that drive our decisions as an institution." The series addresses the bigger picture of the changing landscape and how these changes affect NAU and its strategic planning. Administrators, faculty, staff, students and the community are invited to attend the free lectures that will offer a bird's-eye view of the important issues facing today's colleges and universities. Three other speakers will round out the series, including Rufus Glasper, chancellor of the Maricopa County Community College District, and Robert Shelton, newly appointed president of the University of Arizona. Haeger will wrap up the series in April by taking a collective look at issues addressed by his guests to identify the implications they may have on NAU.
