Celebrating culture through art

Students from Flagstaff's Puente de Hozho and Mountain English Spanish Academy gathered at NAU's University Union on Oct. 11 for a cultural art contest organized for NAU's celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, "Una Cultura, Una Familia."

More than 100 students from the two schools submitted paintings, photography, drawings and other art related to the Latino culture, which were judged for their artistic technique and cultural content.

"The art show is a great way to include the Flagstaff community in Hispanic Heritage Month," said Hilda Ladner, director of NAU's Multicultural Student Center. "We also hope that by bringing these young people to our campus, they can see themselves here one day."
