Professor to discuss space development
at lecture tonight

Edythe Weeks, visiting assistant professor of political science and pre-law advisement coordinator, will talk about the significance of current events regarding outer-space development and space law at a free public presentation beginning at 7 p.m. today, Oct. 17, at NAU's Cline Library Assembly Hall.

Her presentation, "Who Cares about Outer Space Development?," will address the current status and emerging industries connected to outer-space development and space law. She also will sign copies of her book, Outsiders' Guide to Understanding Outer Space Development.

"Today, space is the source of everyday goods and services: cell phones, the Internet, cable television," Weeks said. "Established space industries have already taken a foothold in the everyday lives of most people. Space tourism and space mining are impending industries. Activities are under way to develop the final frontier for human visitation and many people know nothing about it."

Weeks is a member of the International Institute of Space Law, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the National Space Society.

A portion of the proceeds from sales of her book at the event will be donated to the NAU/NASA Technology Enhanced Learning Community Program at Flagstaff Middle School, which integrates technology into students' daily lessons.
