Higher education's role in climate change the topic of upcoming conference

NAU President John Haeger will be among a delegation of Arizona higher education leaders to speak at the first statewide conference to investigate the role of higher education in addressing social and physical issues associated with climate change. Participants also will reflect on whether research and educational efforts will be adequate to face future challenges.

The Climate Change and Higher Education Conference, "Preparing Our Students for a Changing World," will be held 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 26 in the Carson Ballroom of Old Main on Arizona State University's Tempe campus.

The event will feature presentations on the physical and social science implications of climate change, offering perspectives from the three university presidents, members of the Arizona Board of Regents, Gov. Janet Napolitano's office and students.

Planners say that public universities are in a unique position to educate students about the far-reaching implications of climate change and engage them in conversations about the adaptation and response options that may be available.
