- Jack R. Ferrell, associate professor of sociology at NAU-Yuma, presented a paper, "War Without Law, War Without End: Domestic and International Pressures for Peace in Colombia, 1999-2007," at the Pacific Coast Council on Latin American Studies conference Nov. 2-3, in Claremont, Calif. The council promotes scholarly research and dialogue between the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean.
- Kevin Ketchner, academic professional from Cline Library, was theme group co-leader and co-facilitator with Julie Hadley from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom, for the e-learning track at the recent fourth International Conference for Evidence-Based Health Care Education in Taormina, Italy. The results from these track working groups and presentations will be published in a future edition of The Evidence-Based Medicine Journal.
Ketchner also served on the steering committee for this conference and with Sally Doshier, assistant professor in the School of Nursing, presented two poster sessions: "Interdisciplinary collaboration to integrate evidence-based practice in nursing and health professions," and "Instituting the use of PDA's for BSN students: Lessons learned the hard way."
Doshier also had an oral presentation titled, "Implementation and evaluation of an evidence-based practice assignment as a senior capstone project for BSN students."
- Cecilia Ojeda, chair of the Department of Modern Languages, and Angela Roberts, a program coordinator in the Center of International Education, participated in the Arizona Mexico Commission Conference in Ciudad Obregón, Sonora, Nov. 15-16. During the meeting, led by governors Eduardo Bours of Sonora and Janet Napolitano of Arizona, action items were discussed in the areas of education, tourism, economic development, real estate, sports, agribusiness and border issues. Committees formed by experts from both sides of the border in each of these areas will meet next spring in Arizona.
- Mary I. Dereshiwsky, associate professor of educational leadership, had an article, "Benefits of an Online Peer Help Desk," published in the October/November 2007 issue of LERN Magazine, and "Infusing the Personal Touch into Your Online Communication" published in the November e-LERN newsletter.
