  • Pam Stephens, assistant professor in the School of Art, will be a keynote speaker at the Louisiana Art Education Association 2007 Professional Learning Conference, Nov. 9-11. The conference is called "Dropping in on LAEA," after Stephens' and animator Jim McNeill's Dropping in on... series of books and videos.
  • Cecilia Ojeda, associate professor of Spanish and chair of Modern Languages, presented a paper about the work of Chilean novelist and visual artist Guadalupe Santa Cruz in Sevilla, Spain, on Oct. 26. The paper was presented at the XVII Congreso de la Asociación de Literatura y Cultura Femenina Hispánica, which focused on Transatlantic women writers, women whose literary work focuses on the themes of exile, displacement and the crossing of geographical boundaries.
  • Kay Pitt, senior lecturer in accounting, received a Balance Award for the Southwest Region from the American Society of Women Accountants Educational Foundation for her "commitment to work/life balance." Pitt accepted the award at the American Society of Women Accountants/American Woman's Society of CPAs joint national conference at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando, Fla., on Oct. 26.
  • Ivan Jimenez, a jewelry/metalsmithing senior, will be exhibiting his work in the juried exhibit of "It's Elemental" at the Coconino Center for the Arts. The exhibit showcases regional artisans who use wood, clay fiber metal, paper and glass to create fine modern crafts.

    The show also features "Foundations," an adjunct exhibit showcasing emerging fine craft artisans from Northern Arizona University and Coconino Community College. The work of the following NAU jewelry/metalsmithing students will be exhibited: Patrick McGowan, Kim Gehle-Romberger, Emy Lewis, Stephanie Preciado, Tom Yazzie, Linda Fitchett-Hewitt, J. Star Yardley, and Ivan Jimenez.

    "It's Elemental" will run Nov. 20 through Dec. 20, with the opening reception from 6-8 p.m. Nov. 17.
  • Mary I. Dereshiwsky, associate professor of educational leadership, presented "Time-saving Tips on Your Scholarly Productivity," and "Save Time Grading Papers and Homework," at the Saving Faculty Time Online conference, Oct. 30 and 31, sponsored by the Learning Resources Network.
