NAU Theater gathers
for an Irish tale

NAU Theater will be gathering for Martin McDonagh's dark comedy The Cripple of Inishmaan, a strange tale told in the great tradition of Irish storytelling. Directed by theater professor Bob Yowell, performances will be in Northern Arizona University's Clifford White Theater beginning Nov. 9.

The Cripple of Inishmaan takes place on the small Aran Islands off the west cost of Ireland in 1934. The inhabitants of Inishmaan learn that a Hollywood director is coming to the neighboring island of Innishmore to film Man of Aran. Young cripple Billy Claven vies for a part in the film, hoping to find a way to escape the small-minded life of the island.

Lighting and sound for this show is by Russell Blain. Kate Ellis is doing costumes and Patrick Battles is doing scenery and props.

Musicians from the Flagstaff Celtic Society will perform in the lobby of the Clifford White Theater prior to most of the performances.

The Cripple of Inishmaan will run Nov. 9, 10, 11, 14, 15, 16 and 17. On Nov. 11, the play will perform at 2 p.m. only. All other performances begin at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $11 for general admission, $10 for faculty, staff and senior citizens, and $8 for students and children. Call the NAU Central Ticket Office at (928) 523-5661, or go to www4.nau.edu/cto/. Tickets may also be purchased at the door on the date of performance depending on availability. Student rush tickets will be on sale 10 minutes before curtain for $4.
