Don't lose vacation time
Human Resources is reminding employees to check their vacation accrual balances, as time accrued over the maximum will not transfer into the next calendar year.
- If you earn vacation at 22 days per year (6.7 hours per pay period), you can carry forward 264 hours.
- If you earn vacation at 16 days per year (4.9 hours per pay period), you can carry forward 192 hours.
- If you earn vacation at 11 days per year (3.4 hours per pay period), you can carry forward 132 hours.
These maximum amounts are prorated for employees who work between 20 and 39 hours a week. To determine if you might lose vacation hours:
- Check your vacation balance now by logging into LOUIE Online. On the Faculty and Staff Services page select "View Your Leave Balances."
- Calculate the accrual amount you will earn between now and the end of the year (your per pay period accrual rate X # of pay periods).
- Add this amount to the vacation balance you have. If the total is greater than the maximum hours you can carry forward, plan to use enough vacation days to bring your balance below your maximum amount.
- Excess vacation hours will be forfeited in the pay period that contains Jan.1 (paycheck of Jan. 18, 2008).
- Remember to seek supervisor approval for all vacation time requests.
Check with your department payroll timekeeper if you have a question or concern about your vacation balance.
