And the winner is... More than 250 Inside NAU readers weighed in on our informal poll last week asking which image they'd like to see on the Arizona quarter, and the clear favorite was the Grand Canyon. Seventy-seven percent of voters favored a quarter that features the canyon. Quarter No. 1, which features the Grand Canyon as the primary image, won 46 percent of the votes. Thirty-one percent of participants voted for Quarter No. 2, which includes both the canyon and a saguaro cactus. Ten percent voted for Quarter No. 5, featuring Navajo Code Talkers; 8 percent voted for the desert scenic on Quarter No. 3; and 4 percent voted for Quarter No. 4, featuring John Wesley Powell's Grand Canyon expedition. Thanks to all who participated. Although this survey was just for fun, Gov. Janet Napolitano will invite the public to vote on their favorite quarter design in April before making the final decision on the design to be minted. |
