  • Betsey Bruner, journalism instructor and a reporter at the Arizona Daily Sun, was awarded The Muse Award by the Flagstaff Artists Coalition. The award is given to deserving members of the community who have contributed to Flagstaff culture, especially the arts. Bruner has written a number of feature stories about Flagstaff artists and artwork for the Sun.
  • Mary I. Dereshiwsky, associate professor of educational leadership, had an article, "Building Students' Resiliency in Online Courses," published in the November 2006 issue of LERN Magazine, the official publication of the Learning Resources Network.
  • Paul Keim, professor of biology and Cowden Endowed Chair in Microbiology and director of the Translational Genomics Research Institute's Pathogen Genomics Division, will speak at the American Association for the Advancement of Science annual meeting in San Francisco on Feb. 19. Keim will present "Criteria for Identifying and Communicating Dual-Use Research Responsibly: Principles and Framework."
  • James Leve, associate professor in the School of Music, has been awarded an Arizona Regents Reach Out grant for a project, "Self-Paced, Competency-Based Music History Tutorial for Graduate Students." Leve said the award will help the School of Music in its pursuit of better remediation for incoming graduate students.
  • Michelle Miller, associate professor of psychology, has been selected as a Redesign Scholar by the National Center for Academic Transformation, which works to reduce cost and improve quality in higher education. Miller will attend national workshops and symposiums over the next three years, presenting her experiences of redesigning NAU's Introduction to Psychology course.

    Miller will also serve as an expert consultant to institutions that have received NCAT grant support for their own large-scale redesign projects.
  • Donna Price, an NAU nursing instructor, has been named 'Nurse of the Year' by the March of Dimes in the category of Advancing the Profession. Price is a nurse at Flagstaff Medical Center.
  • Mary Tolan, assistant professor in the School of Communication, had her article, "Media Convergence: In the newsroom, in the classroom," published in the fall 2006 Southwestern Mass Communication Journal.
