- Mary I. Dereshiwsky, associate professor of educational leadership, presented her paper, "Student Beliefs and Misperceptions Regarding the Online Classroom," at the 2007 Illinois Online Conference for Teaching and Learning, Feb. 14-16.
- Jack R. Ferrell, associate professor of sociology at NAU-Yuma, presented his paper, "Drugs, Guns, and Money: Free Trade, Military Aid, and the U.S. War in Colombia," at last month's annual conference of the Rocky Mountain Council for Latin American Studies in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Founded in 1953, the council is the world's oldest Latin American academic association.
- Two individuals from the School of Communication presented papers at the Southwest/Texas Popular and American Culture Association in Albuquerque on Feb. 16.
Associate professor Janna Jones presented, "A Plan for All of Us: The 1993 American Film Preservation Board Study." Electronic media major Sasha Spencer presented, "How Newsreel and Radio Broadcasts Shape Memories of Significant Events."
- Sheronda McKee, senior vocal performance major, won the 3rd place award in division 9W of the Arizona National Association of Teachers Singing Student Auditions at NAU Feb. 2.
McKee performed New Grass, a piece composed by her voice teacher, music professor Judith Cloud. The judges selected three of McKee's other pieces, one by Schumann called Widmung, another by Debussy called Beau Soir and the third by Leonard Bernstein called Glitter and be Gay from the musical Candide.
- Thomas Paradis, director of Academic Assessment, and Kathleen Smalldon, coordinator of community affairs, grants and development at Cline Library, had their article, "Unite and Conquer: A Collaborative Approach to Faculty Development," published in the Jan.-Feb. 2007 issue of Assessment Update: Progress, Trends, and Practices in Higher Education.
The article is based on a year-long collaborative project to produce an informative outreach program for NAU full-time and part-time faculty. Participating units in the project included Cline Library, E-Learning Center, Office of Academic Assessment, Faculty Development, the University Assessment Committee and the Liberal Studies Committee.

Jon Reyhner, professor of educational specialties, has been invited to serve as a Scholar in Residence this summer at the University of British Columbia to teach a course and do a presentation related to its theme, "What is Indigeneity Today, and How Can We Make it Matter."
Also, Reyhner recently completed five years of service as a co-investigator for Arizona State University's Native Educators Research Project, and wrote chapter three, "Issues Facing New Native Teachers," for their final report monograph, The Power of Native Teachers: Language and Culture in the Classroom, which was published in December.
- Bruce M. Sullivan, professor of religious studies, published an article in the Encyclopedia of Asian Theatre titled, "Sanskrit Theatre," as well as four shorter entries in the encyclopedia; two on the works 'Mahabharata' and 'Ramayana,' and two on playwrights Bhasa and Kalidasa.
