Accreditation reinforces
NAU's academic status

Faculty, staff and students will be invited to share feedback on a comprehensive report that was drafted as part of the university's reaccreditation process. The Self-Study document, which will be available for review next week, assesses NAU's strengths and identifies opportunities for improvement. Watch for details in next week's Inside NAU.

Strategic plan puts university
on pathway to success

Feedback is being sought on the near-final draft of the university's 2007-2011 strategic plan.

"It's important that faculty, staff and students speak up and participate in this process to help shape the future of NAU," said Pat Haeuser, vice president for Planning, Budget and Institutional Effectiveness.

The draft plan outlines six institutional goals for the university, along with strategies and initiatives that reinforce them:

  1. Student-centered university
  2. Regional and global stewardship
  3. Access, learning and affordability
  4. An environment of inclusion
  5. A commitment to Native Americans
  6. Accountable, innovative and sustainable practices

"Strategic planning is a creative, continuous, and most importantly, collaborative process," Haeuser said, "and we are asking everyone to provide comments and ideas that will inform this plan and our future planning efforts."

In addition to sessions that have been planned to collect feedback from various campus councils, a series of campuswide roundtable sessions will give the university community an opportunity to address each of the goals in detail. Faculty, staff and students are invited to participate in the open sessions:

  • 2-2:50 p.m.: Goal 2—Regional and global stewardship roundtable

Feedback on the draft plan may also be submitted online at www.nau.edu/getinvolved or by e-mail to getinvolved@nau.edu.

After it has finished gathering feedback, the Strategic Planning Council will make recommendations to the President's Cabinet on priorities and strategic plan updates. The plan eventually will be forwarded to the Arizona Board of Regents and then to the governor and Legislature for approval.
