Haeger's 'Conversation' to blend messages of Speaker Series

The three guests who participated in the 2006-07 President's Speakers Series touched on a variety of issues facing higher education in Arizona and nationally, including technology, partnerships and success.

Northern Arizona University President John Haeger will blend those messages with his own vision regarding the state of higher education during a "Conversation with the President" beginning at 3 p.m. April 11 in Ashurst Auditorium. A reception will follow.

Haeger will discuss accountability, accessibility, opportunities and challenges facing higher education in general and Northern Arizona University specifically. He also will report on the university's strategic plan and its reaccreditation initiative.

"We need to keep our fingers on the pulse of trends and issues that drive our decisions as an institution," Haeger said.

The talk will be webstreamed. Questions for the president will be fielded at inside@nau.edu.

The Speakers Series has focused on the changing landscape of higher education, from new technologies to changing demographics, from public support to affordability.

Diana Oblinger, vice president of EDUCAUSE, an organization promoting the intelligent use of information technology, kicked off with her presentation, "Educating the Net Generation" in August. In November, Rufus Glasper, chancellor of Maricopa Community Colleges, discussed the student's "right" to success. University of Arizona President Robert Shelton, the final guest speaker, told listeners in February that public research institutions must collaborate on important projects to succeed against private research.
