Photojournalists to share their professional know-how Two renowned photojournalists will share their experiences and passion for photographing people during NAU's fourth annual Photojournalism Week, April 3-5. Maggie Steber, a documentary photographer, and Pat Shannahan, a photojournalist for the Arizona Republic and two-time winner of Arizona News Photographer of the Year, will be on the Mountain Campus to review student portfolios and speak about their own work. "We always look for talented photojournalists who have a dedication to mankind and are willing to share their passion for people and the world with our students," said Peter Schwepker, a photography lecturer in the School of Communication. Schwepker said the highlight of the week is a lecture by Steber at 7 p.m. April 5 in room 119 of the School of Communication. Steber will discuss her experiences working for National Geographic, Life, The New Yorker, Smithsonian, People, Newsweek, Time and Sports Illustrated. "We are so fortunate to have Maggie visit our campus where she will go one-on-one with our photojournalism students," he said. "She brings such a wide variety of work and experience with her, including her contributions to National Geographic. In addition, she happens to be a very dynamic speaker and person." Shannahan will speak about "Still Photographs in a World of Convergence" at 6:30 p.m. April 4 in room 244 of the School of Communication. Shannahan will show his award-wining photography work along with video blends as he discusses the trend of joining still photography with video at the Arizona Republic. Steber also will be on campus for three days reviewing student work and speaking to classes. | |
