NAU pays tribute to 'Mama Earth'

The university's annual Earth Day celebration, taking place Monday, April 23, will feature live music, free food and many other events aimed at encouraging environmentalism.

The event, dubbed "Respect Your Mama," is sponsored by the Society of Environmental Communicators.

The celebration will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday at Gabaldon Hall field. Entertainment for the event includes magician Robert Ray, and live music from Blackfire, Showbot, Kim Delacy and the Bears and the Bees.

Other events include sidewalk chalk drawing and an exhibit of an ancient fight-dance, Capoeira, which has African-Brazilian origins.

To promote sustainability, the event will be biodiesel powered.
