Husband and wife anglers
win big at Roosevelt Lake

Two Information Technology Services employees who cast their sights on winning a fishing competition recently reeled in a first-place award at the Monterey Bass Company Super Team Tournament at Roosevelt Lake.

The husband and wife fishing team of Debbie Carnahan, a computer operations manager, and Brian Carnahan, a desktop computer support technician, won the April 21 competition by catching five bass that weighed a total of 17 pounds. They beat 90 other teams.

The couple was the first husband-and-wife team to win the tournament in Arizona's largest fishing team circuit. Debbie was the first woman to win first place in that circuit.

"We beat the second-place team by one pound," Brian Carnahan said. "In reality we are not competing against other fishermen, we are pitting our own skills and knowledge against the elusive largemouth bass. At the end of the day, our results are merely compared to the results of about 200 other anglers."

The couple, Team Carnahan, have been fishing for years and started competing about five years ago. They contend in the Monterey Bass Company Super Teams and senior's circuit within Arizona. Brian Carnahan also competes throughout the western region.

"In February, Deb and I took third place in a tournament at Lake Pleasant," Carnahan said. "The support from our coworkers has been amazing."

Fish caught by Team Carnahan are kept in "livewells" that circulate water while the fish are kept on the boat. The fish eventually are released back into the lake.
