Clinton F. Lane dies at 63

Clinton F. Lane, a research professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry since 2003, died May 19. He was 63.

Born Jan. 29, 1944, to Raleigh and Edna Lane, as a child Dr. Lane grew up in rural Iowa where he attended a one-room schoolhouse. His higher education includes receiving a bachelor's degree from Iowa State University, a doctorate in chemistry from Purdue University and post-doctoral research at Cornell University.

He worked for more than 30 years as a chemist for Aldrich Chemical Co. and remained an independent research and development contractor for industrial companies, as well as for the U.S. Department of Energy.

At NAU, Dr. Lane's work included his own research projects, as well as mentoring and tutoring chemistry students.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and riding his motorcycle through the northern Arizona landscape.

Dr. Lane is survived by his wife Vickie, son William, daugther Adrienne Bates (Jeff), three grandchildren, a sister, two brothers and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held 10 a.m., Fri., May 25 at Peace Lutheran Church, 3430 N. Fourth St. in Flagstaff, with visitation beginning at 9 .a.m. Condolences may be sent to Norvel Owens Mortuary at www.norvelowensmortuary.com.
