Bus arrival system alerts riders

A real-time bus arrival system has been installed at selected stops, providing Mountain Campus riders with projected arrival times.

NAU's Mountain Campus Transit and the Northern Arizona Intergovernmental Transportation Authority have worked together to make the system available at NextBus.com, inside the University Union and at the Ardrey, SBS, Rolle and Bookstore bus stop shelters.

Receivers and transmitters are installed on each bus and coupled to a public information system that provides riders with predicted arrival times.

Each bus has a GPS receiver that sends a message to the central computer providing location and bus identifier. The system then calculates arrival predictions based on system history and projects it on LED panels at the selected stops and on a web site.
