2007 President's Award Faculty and Academic Professional Winners

Faculty and academic professionals recognized

The accomplishments and contributions of faculty and academic professionals were recognized and awarded during the annual Faculty/Academic Professional Awards ceremony in Ashurst Auditorium April 30.

President John Haeger and Liz Grobsmith, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, presented nearly 80 awards, including faculty promotions, to those who have demonstrated excellence in their profession throughout the year.

"This is a really big day in the life of a faculty member," Haeger said, adding that tenure, promotion to associate professor and full professor, and advancement to senior lecturer are important achievements. "It is proper that the university really acknowledge that our faculty are the center of the institution and that we recognize their accomplishments."

Three individuals were singled out to receive the President's Awards for Faculty and Academic Professionals for their exemplary contributions to the NAU mission in at least three categories: creativity in teaching, creative use of technology, advising, assessment, recruitment/retention, collaborative research, diversity and service.

Haeger presented President's Awards to Claudia Bakula, associate university librarian at Cline Library; Jeff Berglund, associate professor of English; and Gretchen McAllister, associate professor in the College of Education.

A number of other faculty members were honored at the reception, including six who were presented with their college's Teacher of the Year Award, and those recognized for promotion, tenure and emeritus status.
