NAU Symphony Orchestra closes season with Shakespeare The NAU Symphony Orchestra will finish its season with the last of its Masterwork series, Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet, at 3 p.m. May 6 in Ardrey Auditorium. The performance is free, and no tickets will be required. The piece has 12 different scenes which describe specific points in Shakespeare's drama. His poetry will be projected above the orchestra and different lighting for each piece will set the mood. "Romeo and Juliet is a masterpiece of the 20th century," said Darko Butorac, NAU Symphony Orchestra conductor. "Prokofiev's music recalls the whimsicality of Peter and the Wolf with the intensity of the Alexander Nevsky film score of Romeo and Juliet." The concert will also include Da Falla Ritual Fire Dance and the Weber Clarinet Concerto No. 2 featuring music performance student, Corey Mackey, on the clarinet. |
