Parking permits available online

Registration for 2007-08 parking permits has begun.

Permits can be purchased online at http://home.nau.edu/parking. Beginning July 16, permits and passes can be purchased in person at Parking Services, building #91. Only one permit may be purchased per employee.

Benefit-eligible employees can select payroll deductions in six or 16 pay periods, saving money because the funds are taken from pre-tax dollars. Payroll deductions begin Sept. 14.

Orders placed online by Aug. 5 will be mailed. After that date, online orders must be picked up at Parking Services. Permits are valid and may be displayed when received.

A plan to increase parking fees $30 per year over a three-year period was approved in 2004 but was postponed by the president until 2006 to allow employees and students to prepare for the increase. This second year of the fee increase brings the permit cost to $192, and rates will increase to $222 in 2008.

The fees are used to pay for the free campus shuttle system Mountain Campus Transit, campus parking garages, parking upkeep and repair as well as roadwork.

A new parking option this year is a special permit for the parking garage on the corner of Knoles and Riordan Ranch Road (P96A), which costs $250. The parking garage permit does allow employees to park in other AE lots on campus.

Two reduced-rate parking options introduced last year are again being made available to employees. Both options must be purchased in person at Parking Services:

  • Park 'n' Ride: A reduced fee pass of $96 per year is available only to north campus employees. It allows the pass holder to park in lot P66 (Skydome) and ride an express van/shuttle non-stop to north campus starting at 7 a.m. The pass is not valid in any other lot during business hours or in conjunction with disabled-access permits.
  • Carpool: A carpool permit allows two or more faculty or staff members to travel together and each pay a discounted fee of $96 per year. Those interested in finding a carpool partner are encouraged to review or post in the carpool classifieds section of MyNAU. Carpoolers must register together at Parking Services and carpool permit holders may park in any of the available designated carpool stalls around campus.

Permit pricing may be found online.
