KNAU wins AP awards

Four KNAU reporters won first-place awards from the Arizona Associated Press Broadcasters Association at its annual awards luncheon on June 9 in Phoenix:

  • Laurel Morales: Editorial, "Changing Name Powerful for Morales"
  • Theresa Bierer, Daniel Kraker and Laurel Morales: Public Service, "Making Sense of the Ballot Initiatives"
  • Theresa Bierer, Gillian Ferris Kohl, Daniel Kraker and Laurel Morales: Enterprise News, "Edge of the Rez"
  • Theresa Bierer: News Writing, "Doctor Shortage"

KNAU took home several other awards at the luncheon:

  • Laurel Morales: Second Place, Serious Feature, "Sedona's Economy Relies on Undocumented Workers"
  • Gillian Ferris Kohl, Daniel Kraker and Laurel Morales: Third Place, Series, "Preparing for Wildfire Season"
  • Gillian Ferris Kohl: Third Place, Use of Sound, "The Lemonade Stand"
  • Laurel Morales: Runner-up, Reporter of the Year
