ITS upgrading e-mail system

An upgrade to NAU's faculty and staff e-mail system coming late July or early August will cause e-mail services to be unavailable for 24 hours or more over a weekend.

No e-mail messages will be lost during the conversion, though services must be shut down temporarily over a weekend. Incoming e-mail will be saved and stored, but no one will be able to access old e-mail or any new e-mail sent to NAU addresses during this time period.

ITS is converting to Oracle Collaboration Suite from the current Unix-based JAN server.

The conversion will provide the NAU community with an e-mail system that will integrate with Oracle Calendar and other services and allow continued use of current ITS-supported e-mail programs—Thunderbird, Outlook, WebMail, MyNAU Portal Mail, MAC Mail—without having to change IMAP/POP or any other settings.

"ITS has taken on this enormous task to provide the NAU community with a system that is less prone to failure," said John Campbell, ITS director. "It also will allow ITS to put in place new services, such as integrated e-mail and calendaring, in the future."
