Cline librarian Martha Jean Portree dies at 40; memorial planned
Martha Jean Portree, a reference services librarian at Cline Library, died July 7. She was 40.
Mrs. Portree, known for her dedication and library expertise, worked at Northern Arizona University since December 2000. She was an active member in NAU's Commission on the Status of Women.
"Martha's death is a tragic loss to Cline Library and to the students and faculty of Northern Arizona University who benefited from her expertise and dedicated attention to their research needs," said Cynthia A. Childrey, dean and university librarian. "She was committed to their success and that of her colleagues. Our hearts go out to her husband, David, and their daughter, Samantha."
A memorial ceremony for Mrs. Portree will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 14, in the Cline Library Assembly Hall.
Mrs. Portree is survived by husband David, 4-year-old daughter Samantha, mother Helen Munies, sister Lynne Munies Scognamaglio and brother William Munies. She was preceded in death by father Richard Munies Sr., brother Richard Munies Jr. and sister Elizabeth Munies.
