Lumberjack athletics teams with KAFF Country Classics

KAFF Country Classics (AM 930) will serve as the flagship station for Northern Arizona University football, men's basketball and selected women's basketball broadcasts for the next three seasons, Athletics Director Jim Fallis announced last week.

"We are thrilled to have a station the quality of KAFF join us as our new radio partner," Fallis said. "This partnership will assure continuation of the Lumberjack Radio Network and, most important, great distribution to our local market."

KAFF replaces KVNA (AM 600) as the local affiliate in northern Arizona for all Lumberjack action.
KAFF Country Classics is a 5,000-watt station that delivers traditional country music in addition to five newscasts each weekday, local updates, contests and special programs for northern Arizona listeners.

"We at KAFF Country look forward to this partnership with NAU athletics" said Rich Guest, president of the Great Circle Radio Network. "Our listeners are excited about the opportunity to hear the games live with a great broadcast team."

Veteran broadcaster Mitch Strohman will return as the "Voice of the Lumberjacks" to call all the action in 2007-08.

He will be joined by NAU Hall of Famer Travis Brown, who joins the broadcast team in the color commentator role. Brown played quarterback for the Lumberjacks from 1996-99. He played in the NFL for eight seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, Seattle Seahawks, Buffalo Bills and Indianapolis Colts.

"I am really excited about Travis Brown joining me in the broadcast booth for NAU football this season," Strohman said. "Travis brings with him incredible football knowledge as a former NFL and NAU quarterback. Travis is also a great guy and has a terrific personality."

The Lumberjacks open the season at home at 6:05 p.m. Aug. 30 against Western New Mexico, presented by the NAU Army ROTC.
