Jacqueline Cantsee-Howe, a 2007 graduate of NAU's Applied Indigenous Studies program, is featured on the cover of the 2007-08 Indian Country Education Today magazine (right), produced by the weekly national newspaper Indian Country Today. The annual education issue features articles and information related to educational issues important to all Native communities.
- Gypsy M. Denzine, associate dean of the College of Education, attended the 2007 Phi Kappa Phi National Triennial Convention in Orlando, Fla., last month. Denzine is a member of the NAU chapter of Phi Kappa Phi and was inducted into the society in 2005. Phi Kappa Phi is the nation's oldest and largest all-discipline honor society, with chapters at more than 300 colleges and universities in North America and the Philippines.
- Barbara-Jo Maier, assistant professor of theater, served as the scholar and consultant on the 30th anniversary exhibit for Childsplay, a professional children's theater in Arizona. The exhibit opened Sept. 15 at the new Tempe Performing Arts Center and Gallery and is on display until Dec. 15.
- Marilya Reese, professor of German, was co-translator along with literary translator Elizabeth Oehlkers Wright, of 54 prose and poetry pieces titled Wissenschaftsstuehle/Chairs of Science by Turkish-German poet Zehra Cirak. The works accompany an installation by Berlin sculptor Juergen Walter and are featured in a documentary film by Austrian filmmaker Harald Ortlieb. The installation and translations will premiere in October at the annual Robert Bosch Foundation summit of minority writers in Germany.
