Regents meet at NAU this week

The Arizona Board of Regents is expected to approve the 2008-09 state operating budget requests of the three universities when it meets Thursday and Friday at Northern Arizona University.

The regents meeting begins at 10:30 a.m. Thursday and at 8:30 a.m. Friday in the Havasupai rooms of the University Union. The meeting is expected to end at 11:15 a.m. Friday.

Once approved by the regents, the budget requests for Northern Arizona University, Arizona State University and the University of Arizona will be forwarded to Gov. Janet Napolitano and the Legislature on Oct. 1.

The 2007 annual personnel report for the Arizona University System will be presented to the regents during the two-day meeting, as well as the 2007 financial aid report and the student financial aid plans for fiscal years 2008 and 2009.

The regents also will consider a proposed policy to create a loan program for students planning to become teachers of math, science or special education. Various NAU capital projects also will be discussed.

Members of the Arizona Board of Regents will attend the grand opening of the Applied Research and Development building Thursday at 5 p.m.
