Capital Assets' James Thomas Benedict Jr., a painting supervisor in Capital Assets since 1982 and a Northern Arizona University graduate, died Sept. 1, 2007. "We are saddened to learn of Jim's passing. He has had a true and lasting impact on the Mountain Campus and the entire NAU family," said Mark Flynn, executive director of Capital Assets and Services. "He had an infectious personality which brightened the room and he could make anyone feel right at home in his presence." Born in Phoenix, Mr. Benedict graduated from Casa Grande Union High School in 1963. He graduated from NAU with a bachelor's degree in business administration in 1985. Mr. Benedict served as a U.S. Army helicopter crew chief during the Vietnam War and then settled in Flagstaff, purchasing and managing Ruff's Liquor and Sporting Goods for six years. His hobbies included collecting firearms, four wheeling, John Deere tractors and researching historical pioneers. Mr. Benedict's father, James T. Benedict, Sr., mother, Lois Elaine Smith Benedict and grandson Garret Reid Benedict preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Victoria Moore; sons Mark Richmond, Victor James (Carole), Jeff Thomas (Denise) and Steven Daniel (Michele); daughter Jinnette Ruth; and six grandchildren. He also is survived by siblings Jude McKenzie and Betty Rose. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Shepherd of the Hills Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1601 N. San Francisco St. in Flagstaff. A reception will follow the service. |
