NAU's residence halls
go wireless

Most of NAU's residence halls now have wireless technology.

"Students are looking for colleges to provide good connectivity speed for their wireless laptops and games, and we are working hard to meet their needs," said Fred Estrella, NAU's chief information and technology officer. "The system we are using is fairly interference free with multiple users on it, so it is going to be a great asset for our students in addition to their existing wired network connections in their rooms."

Information Technology Services continues to work to bring the wireless technology to South Family and Campus Heights residence halls.

"About a third of campus and most residence halls are now wireless," said Lanita Collette, a team leader in academic computing. "We hope to have campus totally wireless by the end of fiscal year 2009."

Collette said the upgrades to the residence halls were funded by the recent dollar increase in student IT fees. "This fee was collected from students and we are putting it to work for students," Collette said.

Information on wireless computing at NAU is online.
